ESL Lesson Plan: Christmas discussion questions

So, it's almost that time of the year again, is it? The term time is winding down, you're tired (when aren't you? You're a teacher!) and the students lack concentration more than ever.

We were all students, so let's cut the buggers some slack. Christmas is meant to be a time of happiness - so, don't be remembered as Scrooge. Get them talking, get them discussing all sorts of magical things.
How about cracking open the Christmas song playlist - alternatively, Home Alone?

  1. How do people celebrate Christmas around the world?

  2. What kind of presents do people give one another at Christmas?

  3. Can you think of any Christmas traditions?

  4. Why do you think people like/dislike Christmas songs?

  5. Do you prefer to give or receive gifts?

  6. How do you usually spend Christmas and/or New Years Eve?

  7. Do people spend a lot of money on celebrations in your country?
